Lionel Milton Art Opening @ Humidity Annex

Lionel Milton

Lionel Milton is an urban artist born in New Orleans' Lower Ninth Ward and raised between worlds. As an Army brat, he moved often: D.C., Baltimore, and back again, but New Orleans always remained home. The city's culture, timeless and layered, made him feel like he was living in both the past and present at once.

Art became his anchor. There wasn't much to go around, but his mother always made sure he had something to draw with, even if it was just brown paper bags.

Unable to afford brushes and canvases, he turned to spray paint. It was faster, cheaper, and instinctively right. He became a master at "racking" paint, sliding cans quietly from shelves and into his pockets with a silent finesse. The streets became his criminal canvas, with Armstrong Park, especially Congo Square, serving as both his studio and sanctuary.

He spent hours on a bench there, drawing, skating, absorbing the stories etched into historical markers. It was practice, but also a kind of waiting. Waiting for nightfall. When the sun went down, the real fun began. Hoodie up, skateboard underfoot, he'd cruise through downtown New Orleans. A teenager in the late '80s and early '90s, he wanted his MTV, his skateboards, and most of all, for the graffiti world to know the name "Elleone."

Graffiti was his first teacher. It showed him how to turn scraps into statements, how to create beauty from nothing. He painted out of love, with the belief that art could be a way out. And it was. Today, his work reflects that journey. He explores memory, place, time, and spirit.

He's learned to let go of control, allowing his hand to do the work while the drive comes from something deeper: ancestral memory and the energy of the moment. His art lives in the space between now and then, between personal history and collective rhythm.

People showed out for Lionel, think there's Mac up in there.

Even New Orleans own District Attorney Jason Williams showed up.
Thank you everyone for showing up to Lionel's opening, much, much love.
